Hi I’m Simon
I study Fine Arts at the University of Cincinnati’s School of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP). My work takes heavy inspiration from the Lascaux Cave Paintings produced during the Upper Paleolithic period. Some 17,000 years ago pigment was blown through a reed or bone onto an outstretched hand. When removed from the cave wall, this early human witnessed a negative of their own being imprinted on a rapidly changing world. My work is no greater than this and serves to document my personal lived experience with the hope similarly sized hands can find comfort in it.
When I am not producing art I am usually found in and around parks, birdwatching, hiking, or just walking in general.
Thank you to friends Nick Henderson and Li Chengxi for making this video possible.
